Lizzie the Lizard

Drew brought in a lizard he found at his house and shared it with the class yesterday.  We had a blast learning about "him"!  We researched on the Missouri conservation website and found out that Lizzie is a Northern Fence Lizard.
We know that Lizzie is a boy because during mating season the bellies of the males turn a black and blue color.
We enjoyed having Lizzie in our room and learning about the foods he likes to eat and why he needs to stay warm.  We asked Drew what he was going to do with Lizzie and he said, "I am going to let him go when I get home."  This is a great idea because we found out that he would not make a good pet and might die if we kept him.
Thank-you so much for sharing Lizzie with us!

DUCK?

We candled our duck eggs on Wednesday and I think we might have at least one duck--fingers crossed.  Here is the picture of what we saw.

Writing Workshop

Mrs. Raff (the nutrition lady) came into our class today and talked to us about germs.  The students put pretend germs on their hands and looked under a special light to see what they looked like.  Then we washed our hands and checked again to see if we washed all the germs away!  They learned a lot about germs and we wrote our WOW germ facts during writing workshop.  Here are the papers from Tuesday's group.  They did a great job!

Christian
You need to wash your hands.  You need to stay away from germs.

Cole
Germs get on your hands.  Wash your hands.  Germs are sad.

Josie
Wash your hands to get the germs off.  When you sneeze you need to sneeze into your arm.
Why are germs bad?  Because they are bad.

Natalie
You should wash your hands.  We should stay away from germs.  Germs are bad.

More Eggs!

We have more eggs in our classroom!  The pre-school teacher, Mrs. Harrell, has ducks at her house and she brought in 3 eggs for us to try and hatch in the classroom.  We do not know if they are fertilized, but we are still taking care of them and hoping they will hatch.  We will candle our eggs later this week to see if we have any growth.  We made a chart today to help us make sure we turn the eggs 5 times a day.  It takes 28 days for duck eggs to hatch, so that is a lot of turning!  Our eggs are on day 5 and if everything goes well our ducks will hatch around May 5th.

Writing Workshop

I have a few students who come to my bean table every day.  We work on things to make their writing better.  We have a lot of wonderful writers in our classroom!  Here is a sample of our Wednesday's writing group.

Lazy Ozzie tricked the animals to get him on the ground.

Hannah
Lazy Ozzie was trying to jump on the horse.  He was tricking all of the animals.
